Hornets on the Horizon is designed for students who are first-time freshmen and who exhibit a high level of motivation and perseverance. Students are concurrently enrolled at both Southern Union and at Alabama State University.

After completion of Southern Union degree requirements and maintenance of a 2.75 or better GPA, Hornets on the Horizon participants are guaranteed acceptance into their designated program at Alabama State University.
