AT&T Winners

By Kenneth Mullinax/ASU

Two Alabama State University students, Calandrea Carter and Landon A. Hale, are among the 25 national winners of AT&T's 2024 "Rising Future Makers Showcase."

Each of the students was awarded a $5,000 grant, a 5G-enabled tablet with one year of AT&T service, and access to professional workshop opportunities, including mentoring sessions with AT&T executives.

The "Rising Future Makers Showcase" is an initiative that supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities' (HBCU) students who are involved in what ASU President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., describes as "CommUniversity” projects, as well as their participation in dynamic programs and impactful activities on campus, such as Hale’s leadership as a two-term president of the Student Government Association.

Sabina Ahmed, AT&T's assistant vice president of Sponsorships, shared in a company release that the program, now in its fourth year, is based on AT&T's dedication to uplifting communities by fostering growth and assisting students in achieving their dreams.

"Our Rising Future Makers program hit a significant milestone this year, helping HBCU students advance their careers and make the valuable connections they need to make impactful change in the world,” said Ahmed. “Through our purpose-driven sponsorships, we continue to champion innovation and growth by connecting the next generation of changemakers with the tools and resources they need to bring their ideas to life.”

AT&T helps more than 100 million U.S. families, friends and neighbors, plus nearly 2.5 million businesses, connect to greater possibilities. From the first phone call that AT&T was involved in making happen more than 140 years ago to its 5G wireless and multi-gig internet offerings of today, the company continues both to innovate and improve lives.
