WELCOME TO THE NRMN MISSION RESEARCH STUDY 

WHAT IS IT?

The NRMN MISSION Research Study aims to understand how mentoring can help students succeed in their chosen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or behavioral science degree. This project is a collaborative effort with the Alabama State University (ASU) as the lead institution and includes four other universities, Tuskegee University (TU), Savannah State University (SSU), Vanderbilt University (VU), and University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC).  NRMN is a group of researchers and mentors across the country who are working to understand what factors best help students succeed in their careers and to provide mentorship for students at all levels of STEM and behavioral science. MISSION stands for Mentorship Integration of Students in Scientific Interaction, Organization, and Networking. Through this project, we aim to provide extensive mentorship and networking opportunities for eligible students in the STEM and behavioral science majors (such as psychology) and investigate their effectiveness.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE? 

To be considered for participation, you must be a freshman enrolled at  ASU, TU, or SSU who is majoring in STEM or behavioral science and be a US citizen, a permanent resident, or a Non-Citizen U.S. national (resident of U.S. territories, e.g., Guam or Puerto Rico). If interested, you must complete an application and be approved. If approved, you will be randomly assigned to one of three possible groups to receive varying levels of mentoring and benefits which are described below.

WHY SHOULD I APPLY?

As an NRMN MISSION research participant, you may RECEIVE quality mentorship while BUILDING scientific and peer networks. ALL participants will RECEIVE monetary compensation ranging from $50-$175.

STUDY PURPOSE:  Research shows that students who receive effective mentoring are more likely to succeed in their chosen careers. Therefore, this research study and project aim to understand the factors that help students develop the persistence to enroll in and complete a STEM or behavioral science degree program and in whether our mentoring activities help students persist in completing their program.
