Creativity takes center stage as the Alabama State University BFA in Dance Program presents “Emerging Visions: Choreography Showcase” on Saturday, September 19, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 20, at 3 p.m. in ASU’s Ralph D. Abernathy Hall, 1625 S. Harris Way.
“Emerging Visions” shines a spotlight on the imagination, artistry and developing choreographic voices of Alabama State University’s BFA in Dance students. More than a showcase of movement, the production gives up-and-coming artists the chance to step beyond being performers and into becoming choreographers—bringing original ideas, perspectives, and stories to life on stage.
Featuring a dynamic collection of student-created works, “Emerging Visions” explores a range of movement styles, musical perspectives, themes, and artistic approaches. Each piece reflects the individuality of its creator while offering audiences an inside look at the artistic identities taking shape within the ASU BFA in Dance Program.
Through this experience, students are encouraged to take creative risks, experiment with movement and storytelling, and develop their own choreographic perspectives in an environment that supports artistic exploration and growth.
“We are excited to give our students a platform where their creative ideas can take center stage,” said Morgan Jackson, Director of Emerging Visions and Assistant Professor of Dance at Alabama State University. “‘Emerging Visions’ allows our students to experience the full creative process of developing choreography while allowing audiences to witness the unique voices emerging from our program.”
The showcase, Jackson noted, reflects Alabama State University’s commitment to cultivating innovative artists, empowering student creativity, and preparing the next generation of dance professionals to make their mark in the performing arts.
