The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) provides you the opportunity to become a United States Air Force or Space Force officer while completing your college degree. The program, combining traditional undergraduate education with military instruction, will prepare you to face the leadership challenges awaiting the Air Force or Space Force in the twenty-first century. Those who complete the Air Force ROTC training program and earn at least a bachelor’s degree will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force or Space Force. Who Can Join AIR FORCE ROTC at Alabama State University?

To be considered for the program, you must be a U.S. citizen and enrolled as a full-time student at Alabama State University (ASU), Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), Huntingdon University, Faulkner University or Troy University Montgomery Campus (TUM). Advancement in the program involves testing and additional qualifications. Air Force ROTC Detachment 019 and Crosstown Universities

Air Force ROTC Detachment 019 has crosstown agreements with the following schools. For incoming students, especially freshmen who can spend four years in Air Force ROTC, register for Aerospace Studies (AS) 101, and the appropriate Leadership Lab:

  • Alabama State University – AS101; AS101X
  • Auburn University Montgomery – AFAS1013; AFAS1013
  • Troy University (Montgomery) – AS1112; ASL1112
  • Huntingdon College – AERO111; AERO111L
  • Faulkner University – AS1201; AS1001

As a student in ASU’s Air Force ROTC program, you will take courses that explore Department of the Air Force organizations, leadership, history and defense-related topics. You will also attend Leadership Laboratories (LLAB), where you will learn Air Force customs and courtesies, management skills and military drill and ceremonies. Interested in an Air Force ROTC Scholarship?

Get assistance to attend one of the best colleges with ROTC Air Force training in the country! Find money for school, books and monthly expenses with an Air Force ROTC scholarship. You can start the application for the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) the summer before your senior year of high school, but the deadline to apply is January 12th, 2025. This scholarship requires a fitness test and an interview, so come prepared.

Air Force ROTC recently revived the emphasis on in-college Air Force ROTC scholarships and you may be eligible to compete for the In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP) during the spring of your first or the fall of your second year as a cadet (see Eligibility Requirements).

If you are majoring in one of the highly desired Technical or Foreign Language Majors, you may have a higher chance of receiving an in-college scholarship.

Registration, In-processing, & Key Dates

All new cadets in the program will need to attend new-cadet in-processing.  This is typically held during the first week of school and is located at Detachment 019, located at 1300 Carter Hill Road.  All prospective cadets are encouraged to bring their Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, and Drivers License.
