Tuition and Costs
The cost of the program varies by semester. Each semester, tuition is calculated to equal the following:
[total semester credits] x [ASU cost per credit hour] + [ASU flat semester fee]
As of 2/2024, the total program cost equates to $34,346 (in-state) or $61,538 (out-of-state).
Additional costs to consider include textbooks, the need for a vehicle throughout the program, optional travel to annual national P&O meetings, potential travel in the process of seeking residency employment, and residency/certification costs following graduation. Students must be prepared to begin the program with a personal laptop to use daily in classes. Tablets are appropriate and effective as an additional technology resource, but cannot replace a laptop in meeting the requirements of each course; course assessment and organization are managed primarily through the Canvas learning management system.
In-state tuition rates can be granted to students from states other than Alabama. Fifteen states work with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) in a regional interstate compact and participate in the Academic Common Market (ACM) program. Under this program, and for participating states, you may qualify for in-state tuition when another P&O program does not exist in your own state of residence. A number of students make use of this agreement each year while enrolled in the ASU MSPO Program, so please use the following link to determine if you potentially qualify. Please do not make assumptions on eligibility without speaking with the state office relevant to your situation.
