The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree provides educational opportunities not available through the existing, traditional degree programs. The Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies emphasizes an open learning experience and a wider perspective than traditional undergraduate majors. The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies offers the student the opportunity to participate in a flexible, coherent, academically sound, and goal-oriented education specific to the student's intellectual development and career aspirations. It is appropriate for those students who seek a thorough grounding in the traditional arts and sciences from an interdisciplinary perspective. The individualized focus and flexibility, of the program is ideal for students preparing to enter the workplace and for those who plan to continue their studies in graduate or professional school.

Within the framework of two foundation areas, a University-wide interdisciplinary studies sequence, and a multidisciplinary concentration, a student may draw upon the resources of all Schools of the University to create a degree program. In addition to organized courses, students must participate in the BIS Capstone to combine academic and practical experience.

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree is tailored to fit your dreams!

The BIS degree is intended for students whose academic interests might not be satisfied with existing majors. The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program allows students to combine coursework in two or more disciplines based on personal interest, the desire for self-improvement, career advancement or the need to prepare for study in a professional graduate program. Additionally, students who have taken a variety of courses at other colleges and universities but lack adequate credits for a traditional degree may find the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program allows them to use many of their previously earned credits.
Degree-seeking students will have their own professional BIS Advisor for their Area of Study for the duration of their program studies at Alabama State University.
