Department of Mathematics & Computer Science programs

We envision excellence in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science as one’s attainment of the highest level of proficiency in mathematics and/or computer science. Excellence is dynamic. As skills and academic and professional attributes are increased and sharpened, newer standards of excellence are derived from previous plateaus of success.

DEGREES AWARDED

The department offers Bachelor's Degrees in the following disciplines:

  • Mathematics
  • Computer Science

In an effort to offer programs at the highest level of proficiency, the department is working diligently towards ABET accreditation for our Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science program.

At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Science degree in Mathematics. Graduate students will have the unique opportunity to study along-side some of the best and brightest mathematical minds in the country.

WHY MATHEMATICS?

Mathematics is the foundation on which so many other academic disciplines are built. Mathematicians use mathematical theory, computational techniques, algorithms, and the latest computer technology to solve economic, scientific, engineering, and business problems.

Engineers, computer scientists, physicists, and economists are among those who use mathematics extensively. Statisticians, actuaries, and operations research analysts, are actually specialists in a particular branch of mathematics. Mathematicians should have substantial knowledge of computer programming, because most complex mathematical computation and much mathematical modeling are done on a computer.

WHY COMPUTER SCIENCE?

Computer Scientists are the designers, creators, and inventors of new technology. By creating new technology, or finding alternative uses for existing resources, they solve complex business, scientific, and general computing problems.

Computer scientists discover new ways for computers to process and transmit information, use technology to create life-like situations, and create machines that can perform tasks on their own. The prolific use of computers and information technology has generated a need for highly trained, innovative workers with extensive theoretical expertise.
