Departmental Organizations

 ASUBotics is an organization whose mission is to supply the students with ideas that will shape this new frontier of computer science which is at the intellectual forefront of the digital revolution that will define the 21st century.  The ASUBotics organization assists with outreach to help potential students and will also participate in various competitions

Pi Mu Epsilon is an organization dedicated to promoting Mathematics and encouraging students and faculty to vigorously pursue mathematical understanding.   Pi Mu Epsilon was created to provide a means for students engrossed in mathematical research to present their findings to a more receptive audience at Syracuse University. Pi Mu Epsilon has continued since its founding in 1914 to promote scholarship and to revitalize communications between mathematics faculty, majors, and potential majors on over 250 college campuses in 45 states and the District of Columbia.

The focus of Pi Mu Epsilon is to encourage interest and activity in mathematics through individual chapters, informal meetings, and national meetings of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS). These meetings afford students the opportunity to present papers, hear addresses by noted invited speakers, and facilitate interaction between participants across the country.

Another way that Pi Mu Epsilon promotes scholarship in mathematics is through the publishing of the Pi Mu Epsilon Journal. The PME Journal presents papers and mathematical problems by and for its members. Alabama State University’s chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the Alabama Zeta chapter, was founded in 1976.

AASD-STEM Student Advocacy Group

The Alabama Alliance for Students with Disabilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics has established this group as part of the grants efforts to increase STEM awareness. Alabama State University is currently participating in conjunction with Auburn University and Auburn University Montgomery, but we are working to establish our own chapter. These advocacy groups will plan activities to help raise the awareness of students with disabilities and advocate for ways in which their experiences can be enriched across the campus. Such activities should be directed at improving the quality of students with disabilities campus-wide, not just for those enrolled in the

AASD-STEM.
