ASU's College of Health Sciences and the Center to Advance Rehabilitative Health and Education will host the first-ever Baines-Woodruff Endowed Lectureship on Health Disparities on March 2.

The focus of the event is to highlight efforts to improve health inequities and to find solutions through discussions of issues that limit equity in healthcare access and outcomes.

This event will feature Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, who served as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for President George H.W. Bush from 1989-1993. He created President Bush’s health care reform proposal. Sullivan is president emeritus and founder of the Morehouse University School of Medicine and is chairman of the Sullivan Alliance.

“The College of Health Sciences at ASU is quickly establishing itself as a leading voice for addressing disparities in health care among the citizens of Alabama and across the country. We are delighted to begin this new lectureship series for connecting tomorrow's healthcare providers, community members, and healthcare professionals with our nation's leading researchers and policymakers,” said Dr. Steven B. Chesbro, former dean of the College of Health Sciences.

Medical professionals, students and the local community are invited to attend.

The lectureship series is named in honor of health care advocates Dr. Ruth E. Baines, former assistant chancellor of Health Sciences for the State University of New York (SUNY) Central Administration; and Dr. Lynda D. Woodruff, a trailblazer in physical therapy education.
