ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PSYCHOLOGY?

Because psychology is such a broad discipline, psychologists work within a variety of speciality areas depending on their areas of expertise.  Speciailzation generally occurs after earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, as over 40% of psychology majors pursue graduate education shortly after earning their bachelor's degree.  Whether you plan to attend graduate school or begin a career immediately, opportunities abound in the field of psychology!

WHAT CAREERS ARE AVAILABLE FOR PSYCHOLOGY MAJORS?

Due to its wide scope, psychology is a very big field with a wide variety of career options for students with a bachelor's degree.  Almost anywhere you find people, you will find psychology majors.  Unlike some majors that prepare you for a single job, a degree in psychology prepares you for a variety of careers working with people and animals.  While many students choose to pursue graduate education in psychology, about 57% of psychology students enter the workforce with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  According to the American Psychological Association:

“People with bachelor’s degrees in psychology often possess good research and writing skills, are good problem solvers and have well-developed, higher level thinking abilities when it comes to analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating information. Many find jobs in administrative support, public affairs, education, business, sales, service industries, health, the biological sciences and computer programming. They may also work as employment counselors, correction counselor trainees, interviewers, personnel analysts, probation officers and writers.”

That means you have options now and in the future.  Earning a graduate degree in the field opens up even more career opportunities.  Best of all, a degree in psychology offers you the opportunity to find flexible, meaningful and fulfilling work in a high-growth field.
