Education Certification
We would like to welcome you to the Educator Certification Office at Alabama State University. In this office we are united across a broad variety of undergraduate and graduate programs by our shared commitment to helping prepare educators, instructional support personnel and other professionals to be decision makers who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to ethically and effectively integrate theory and practice in carrying out the goals of their professions.

MISSION
The Educator Certification Office is organized into three areas: Educational Preparation Programs (EPP), Graduation, and Certification. Our mission is to undergraduate and graduate students in educational opportunities toward the completion of baccalaureate and graduate degree programs at Alabama State University.
GOALS
The goals of the Educator Certification Office at Alabama State University are to
- To construct a seamless pipeline from EPP to graduation through clear-cut articulation of policies and programs
- To facilitate candidates toward completion of baccalaureate and graduate degrees
- To expand the educational and career opportunities of students in the College of Education at Alabama State University.

EPP Application Requirements: |

Orientation: |
All students must enroll in and pass EDU 100 to get the necessary paperwork, information, due dates and expectations of the COE’s Educator Preparation Program.
The EDU 100 course is offered Fall, Spring and Summer terms. |
Interviews: |
EPP applicants will participate in an interview per the EPP entrance requirements. Interviews will be conducted by a COE faculty member or advisor.
Appointment will be scheduled by the Department Chairperson or Advisor. |
Acceptance: |
Students will be contacted via email when admitted to the EPP. |

It is the student’s responsibility to turn in all necessary documents needed to process
the EPP application. By signing the EPP Checklist and application, the student agrees
that all documents required have been submitted. If required documentation is missing,
the application will become invalid and the student must reapply in order to be reconsidered. |

COE Graduation Application Procedure
STEP I |
Pick up an Application for Graduation from your advisor. Complete the entire application. |
STEP II |
TYPE name on Graduation Application. Type full name using, JR, II, III, capital letters,
hyphens or accent marks, where necessary. For example, LaKeisha La´Shae McMillian
or Thomas DeJackson Brown III. |
STEP III |
Students in the College of Education MUST follow the steps below:

Step I. Please refer to the Educator Certification Instructions for specific directions.
Step II. Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to obtain
Alabama Professional Certifications.
- All coursework must be completed including Internship.
- Degree must be awarded and posted on transcript.
- All appropriate Praxis Content Tests and edTPA performance-based, subject-specific assessments must be completed for certification area, and
All edTPA video recording equipment must be returned to Mrs. Griffin in the Teacher Education Center, Ralph Abernathy Building, Room 220.
